This half-day seminar will provide an update on the latest policies and practices to reduce carbon emissions from new housing, including the surprise changes announced in last month's Budget.
It will be of interest to anyone involved in the design, construction and approval of new housing, including architects, surveyors, contractors and designers, builders and developers, housing associations and registered social landlords, and local authority officers and members.
The context for the seminar is:
- The ongoing changes to the definition of zero carbon new homes, including the recent Budget announcement
- The changes to the incentives for renewable energy installations
- The latest approaches to designing and assessing low and zero carbon new homes
- The role and leadership from local authorities seeking to address climate change
The changes to the definition of zero carbon new homes is likely to make the national target for all new dwellings to be zero carbon from 2016 onwards more achievable. There has also been an increased emphasis on carbon reduction above the Code for Sustainable Homes and the emergence of interest in passive house design.
The seminar will explore:
- What the changes in policy mean for designers, local policy makers and constructors
- What tools are available to assist design and decision making for low and zero carbon new homes
- What the latest examples of low carbon new homes look like
