Introducing the DSBI

The Devon Sustainable Building Initiative (DSBI) is an independent not-for-profit organisation which promotes and enables sustainable building in Devon and beyond.

The DSBI provides advice and support on sustainable building projects and policies and offers training and consultancy services. We work with a wide range of different stakeholders, including local authorities, the construction industry and related professions and clients.

The DSBI covers residential, commercial and public buildings across all stages of the building cycle from design and construction through to the use and refurbishment of buildings.

The DSBI has been involved in a number of major developments, including Devon’s proposed new communities at Cranbrook near Exeter and Sherford near Plymouth, where our work has been crucial in delivering better sustainability outcomes, particularly at Cranbrook.

The DSBI was formed by a partnership of local authorities, the two universities in Devon, businesses, charitable organisations and interested individuals, and complements similar organisations in Cornwall and Somerset.

This website is currently under development, but will include:

  • a one-stop shop for information
  • access to a sustainable building directory
  • details of seminars & workshops
  • a regular newsletter
  • details of sustainable building training
  • case studies of sustainable buildings
